Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
Our defence is utter crap, they need a massive kick up the arse and a decent coach to sort them out.

Allegedly he fell out with S,G or B well its time, whoever the poor little soul was, that they grew up and realised we need him back. We need someone to rattle the cages of certain defenders and he fits the bill in my book.

Our last 4 Managers were all defenders, you would think one of them could at least teach our defenders how to defend!

Maybe I'm thinking of someone else. I had it in mind he was going home.

I thought it was common knowledge he is going back to city as a coach?

No he's not. His family like it here, kids in school, and he has a job waiting for him at Man City. Try again.

I think Zabaleta is set on returning to Argentina.

Don't disagree with any of that southbank, just wish they would do something quickly. It is arguable most if not all of the five goals Liverpool and Brighton scored against us were as a result of defensive errors, we can't continue like this and survive.

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
I also think Moyes has got to bring in some fresh coaching blood on the attacking side of things.

Alan Irvine has gone stale alongside Moyes - and went stale some time ago.

Again, I'd be looking at a more recent pro, more familiar with modern tactics, who brings a fresh approach to the attacking side of the game.

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
Personally, if I were Moyes, I'd give some thought to appointing Pablo Zabaleta as the club's new defensive coach.

He's retiring in the summer, already has his UEFA B badge and wants to go further in coaching/management.

They could, at a push, use him as a player/coach until the end of the season and then - if successful - bring him in to the coaching staff full-time.

Recent/current pro, fresh coaching ideas, proven experience/success, knows the club a bit/knows the players/might want to stay in the area.

Just a thought.

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
Jay,

Yep, agreed mate.

Despite the fact that there should not have been an issue with re-appointing Pearce to Moyes' backroom staff, paradoxically, it might actually help Moyes in the long run if he starts to work with some new coaches.

It's probably what he needs, as he has gone very stale tactically since his last season at Everton (which was eight/nine seasons ago now).

He said he spent his time at UEFA thinking through how to improve his coaching, embrace new methods and introduce more attacking play. But then he immediately wanted to re-appoint the same tired old backroom staff who (with him) largely failed to inspire anybody here the last time around.

"I'm a new man. I win. Now, I'm sure you all know Alan Irvine, Stuart Pearce and all my other old contacts..."

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
Thx southbank, can't disagree with that but Pearce aside we desperately need to sort the defence and whoever is supposed to be doing it at present is failing badly!

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
When Grant took us down we lost half our games. A worse lose ratio than in the Moyes first stint at WHU when he kept us up. In addition Moyes points per game average ( the truest measure of a manager ) was better than Grant’s.

This current stint of Moyes looks disastrous though.

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
Jay,

Stuart Pearce was part of the West Ham coaching staff when Moyes was last appointed.

Under that group of coaches, we had a worse win ratio than we had Avram Grant. We conceded three goals or more on nine occasions after they took over (not until mid-November in the 2017/18 season) - with Pearce as defensive coach.

We got humped repeatedly and defended like kids. Burnley, Brighton and Swansea thumped us that season. Not just the big clubs.

His record at West Ham was not great. He isn't a big loss, despite being a thoroughly decent man and a fans favourite as a player. Bobby Moore was a poor coach/manager, too. It does happen.

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
Say what you like about Pearce but the truth is our defence is crap and its the main reason we will be relegated if not sorted. Time is precious and its clear that whoever is coaching the defence at present is doing a bloody lousy job, it needs to be sorted NOW!!

They could start by telling the ditherers at the back to kick the effin ball into touch rather than p#ss about.

Why doesn't anyone want to come to West Ham... ?

Tomáš Souček?

Oh, the Czech Republic is a small country, far away, which knows little about us...

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
Would it be better to have Stuart Pearce in doing something with our defenders rather than having no-one?

Probably.

But I think the issue is just a lack of coaching staff in general so we just need to get SOMEONE in. Why doesn't anyone want to come to West Ham... ?

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
Btw, whatever the situation with Pearce - the board seem very touchy about what happened between them, Moyes and Pearce (as they are with many things at the moment) - I'm not too worried about him not having returned.

I like Staurt Pearce. He was an excellent player who wore his heart on his sleeve. But I think he's always flattered to deceive as a manager or coach.

Great bloke. Not a huge loss as a coach, I'm afraid. The bigger worry is that Moyes has not been able to fill the role (and others) yet - and doesn't seem to be close to it at the moment. We are closing in on relegation - we're now further down the league than when Moyes took over, with a string of incredibly tough games to come, and we haven't even got a full compliment of backroom staff.

Re: Where is Stuart Pearce when you need him?
Sven - Alan Irvine was a winger, mate. He's supposed to be an attack-minded coach. Not that we'd know it. So an easy mistake to make.
